Your Choice

Three weeks in Architecture, I gotta say. It's been crazy and there's part of me, which I don't know how dominant that part might be, might have second thoughts about this whole Architecture thing.

But of course, those are just some lame voices that kept telling me that I can't go through this and just quit already.

So basically, at this point I'll just tune the voices down to silent and move on to the next hour.

You might just wanna go crazy or I don't know, feeling as low as the ground beneath you, but remember one thing.

Learning architecture is like learning a language. You won't learn the language merely in 1 day. Though you tried your best but at the end of the day, there's always something new to learn. As design can take you further than your ordinary train of thoughts.

Hell, of course I don't know what I'm saying as I'm just a first year student.

But someone that wiser told me this.

Hence, my life motto comes in.

Life's simple. You take one choice and you don't look back. Life may knock you down and kick you in the stomach. But it all boils down to your choice whether to stay down or get up and fight again.

Alright, I'll see you guys on the next entry.

Long live Archi XV!
Peace out!

My friend's work in progress.

Finally!

It's been 2 weeks since I've started my first year's second semester.

The highlight of this semester is definitely the Architectural Design 1 studio subject.

Even thinking about this subject makes me feel like flying. Cause I'm both nervous and excited.

Anyway, we just ended our KAED Fest'12. I gotta say, this year's festival isn't as awesome as last year's.

I hate to say this but I'm working on my second part of my first task.

...hence this short post.

I'll see (anyone who's reading this) on the next entry.

Stay awesome!

Thursday 5 July 2012

Not just another visit to the bookstore!

It's July and it's reading month! So I went to Kinokuniya to get some new books and they have this awesome offer until the end of this month which is new membership will get 2 voucher of 20% of 2 fixed price books! So, ta-da!

It's been a month since I got Nikki but I still don't really know how to get my hands around it. Hence, after doing some Googling, I decided to buy this.

...and I also bought this book to help me strengthen my basics in AutoCAD 2013. Though the ones we're using in the lab is AutoCAD 2009 but I'm gonna install the new one in mum's Sony Vaio, so let's just go with this one instead. ...and this comes with a free cute Dummies small notebook.

Yeah, I'll try to get my hands on the George Omura and Rick Graham books later. But for starter, let's go with this first.

As per usual, I always check out the new Luxe Paper journal and notebooks collection and... Ta-da!!! This is Lilly's new sister, Amanda.

My best friend dragged me to the cinema before I managed to get to the second floor where most of favourite genres are located. Well, I guess I'm gonna buy some more later in August by using the remaining voucher!

But for now, I'm okay with these. :) #content

Okay, it's time to hit the bed... Good night!

CAD is Awesome!

I gotta say, it's kinda difficult and definitely need a lot of practice but I think I'm just crazy about this software! Haha I know it's sounds weird and crazy but I don't care!

All we did today was working on basics stuffs using the toolbar but I rather use shortcuts instead of the toolbar. It helps me saving time while working on the first 10% assignment.

And right now, all I'm thinking is starting to work on my dream apartment floor plan. Hehe it's gonna be a lot of fun!

There are various areas of topics we the first year students are going to be assigned with. Basically we're gonna cover the whole Neufert's Architect Data book so I do actually need to start doing some reading.

The upcoming weekend is going to be Archidex'12. It's like one of the grandest event for those in architectural field. I was thinking of going but unfortunately I have to do some shots for my personal Urban Trail with my best friend who's going back to her country soon. Plus, I don't have anyone to go with as everybody is gonna be occupied with the PADI event in UPM Serdang.

I'm thinking of going to catch some movies tomorrow but still haven't decided on what movie yet. Oh, well.

That's all for now and I'll see you guys on my next entry.

Here We Go!

Well, this semester is gonna be half studying and half vacation I say. Only one subject and I got nothing to complain about. But it's the first time I learned about Computer Aided Drafting. So I really think it's gonna be a wholesome of new experience. Plus, I haven't been using Windows for so long so yeah.

Since my MacBook's performance isn't really that high to operate AutoCAD, I'll be using mum's Sony Viao for a while.

I friend of mine a bought a Dell workstation for the purpose of working with AutoCAD which costed her around 7k. I asked my lecturer which platform is the best for AutoCAD and sadly, Windows triumph Mac OS X this time. AutoCAD wasn't released for Mac not until 2010.

Honestly, I'm tempted to buy a new laptop just to work on AutoCAD and that will be a good reason to buy a workstation computer.

Anyway, the first CAD class was really short, merely one hour. This is short semester so the scheduled was supposed to be doubled but not today.

We'll be starting our lessons on Tuesday next week.

Alright, then. Enjoy your weekend!

Urban Trail

Today, me and some of second year students will be going for an urban trail. I never done it before but I'm excited about it!

I'll post up some photos when we're done okay!

Final Visit~

This evening me and my group mates went to the house to pick up those hobos that we installed a week ago. We also took some readings using the borrowed lux meter  and anemometer around the house.

After two visits, all I can say that the design of the house is nice. But other than the living room, other area of the house is desperate for the owner attention. Well, can't blame them as they just moved in.

Anyway, after ensuring we got all the data we need, I went around the house to take some pictures.

Well, though I can't believe it but I did missed this even after passing by the living room over and over again.

Anyway, tomorrow is the submission date for Cultural subject and the biggest problem is all my team mates are busy with their working drawings therefore I'm still thinking on how are we going to settle it...

Whatever la~

I'l see you guys next entry, yeah!

Signing out!

Happy van de Rohe day...

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (March 27, 1886 – August 17, 1969) was a German-American architect who is famous as the master of modern architecture... His famous aphorisms, "less is more" and "God is in the details"...

Happy birthday, Mies... :)

So many things!

Yet so little time!

Since I started my classes on the fourth week, I gotta say. At this point, I really just wanna drop my subjects and go for a study leave! I'm going to extend for another semester as I can't register Studio 1 as it's not offered this semester. Hence, I still have 6 semesters ahead of me! Meaning a supposedly 6 long semesters + 3 short semesters program turned into a 7 long semesters + the short semesters!

..Or is it allowed to take the short semesters subjects during a long semester? I better go and see my academic advisor.

I think that's all for now~

Au revoir!

Wednesday 14 March 2012

What a Day!

It's Wednesday and I only had Envi. Sc. Syst. for today. So I decided to continue the hunt for my first DSLR camera. First spot, Nikon at Suria KLCC.

After that, I went to Arc to check out new merchandises. Well, nothing new.

Next is my favourite spot in KLCC, which is Kinokuniya bookstore!

They just re-stocked their Luxe journal collection and while checking other things, there it was. A kind of journal that I've been looking for all this time.

After that, I went to Starbucks and had caramel macchiato on my back to campus.

With that, au revoir!

Subjects For the Semester...

Finally, I got to register my subjects... :)

I had to change my Bahasa's section as it clashes with my QSBE... Hence, changed instructor as well...

I just attended QSBE lecture so far... all in all, the lecturer is so awesome! He's Asst. Prof. Dr. Spahic Omer. Known for Islamic architecture books and other amazing things... I just can't believe to actually have him as one of my lecturer. well, I did have an awesome lecturer before but he failed me (and other 80+ students) in Molecular Biology, so...

Okay! Time for Cultural and Human Behaviour in the Built Environment class. This is the last lecture by our Asst. Prof. Dr. Zaiton as she's going to enjoy her one-month vacation before flying to Rome, Italy. Wow. Italy...

Au revoir!

Wednesday 22 February 2012

It's the Beginning.

It's been more than a week since the semester had started and up until today, I just attended Bahasa classes that I registered for the sake of wanting to do something useful this week...

...while waiting for the the day I'm going to change to Architecture.

Wednesday last week, I went for an interview conducted by the Department of Architecture staffs, Asst. Prof. Dr. Aziah, Asst. Prof. Dr. Syala and  Asst. Prof. Dr. Hamiruddin.

Anyway, the interview went well. I guess... and from that day until today, I was nervous. ...more than ever.

Why? Because during last semester the faculty decided not to conduct any interview and hence no one was allowed to apply for change of department which resulted 2 people who I went to the interview with had to complete one long semester in their assigned majors, before they can apply to architecture department.

Therefore, I was worried. I checked in with the Head of Department's PA to know when I can get the result and she asked me to wait until today. But I was anxious so I checked in with her again yesterday and only then she assured me by saying that all the lecturers that interviewed me the other day gave me their recommendations.

But I just can stop worrying. It's been 3 weeks since I had a good sleep and I really think I could die of anxiousness. So today, I went to the office again (probably the hundredth of time already), hoping that I can find out the result. Then the Admin Officer gave me a serious face.

She was looking at my transcripts and the signed form and asked me to see the Academic Advisor. "But I already went to see Dr. Zumahiran.."

"... I mean Dr. Syala. Your new Academic Advisor..." ...

She said some other stuffs after that but all I could hear was her previous statement, and it kept on repeating and echoing at one corner of cochlea and the interpretation of that information was stuck at some corner of my diencephalon...

I sat there for like 10 minutes, speechless and there I thought. I'm one a lucky person. I called my parents and they rejoice at my victory of securing a place in that department and will fly to Kuala Lumpur to see me.

 Happiness. Undescribable happiness.

 Wish me luck, guys!

Architecture, here I come!

Wednesday 4 January 2012

Returning 14 Books...

...to the library! :D Not really that much of reading materials compare to those in senior years. Most of them are on architecture and built environment and few books on drawing techniques.

Anyway, I've been thinking about architecture more and more each and everyday.

Now that it's going to hit me in the face, the fact is just... keep on pressing me.

I really wanna go for it. Really. All I'm praying for right now is for my God to give me strength to go for it.

It's going to take some time to be over with what i've done in the past. I know that.

It's going to take some time to let go certain things. I know that.

but at the same time all I want is nothing can get into my head right now and cloud my judgment.

Pray that everything's going to be alright.

Peace 'em out!

Intro. to Built Environment Final Exam

One word: AWESOME!

The 6-three difficulty levels questions were pretty much easy except (of course) the third question. The points acquired from the lecture notes are obviously not enough therefore I had to include some my own perspectives on the importance of urban planning.

Anyway, few more days before another paper, let's hit McDonald first. I'm starving!

Monday 2 January 2012

Draggy Notes

But what to do.... these Intro. to Built Environment notes are probably mere 30% compares to future History of Architecture's notes later on...

Wait up. That's one of Architecture Department's subject. I'm still not sure whether I got in or not...

Speaking of which, I already had my port folio review on last Friday. Overall, it was okay... I guess. My instructor gave me few more advises on preparing myself before entering the Kulliyyah next semester and wish me luck.

I told him that I'm planning to work some more on my port folio i.e. getting new materials and try to do some more drafting during the break but then, he said just have some fun cause in near future, I'm going to be very busy. Hmm~ he's probably right. But reading some books on contemporary architecture won't hurt, right?

Anyway, the exam is going to be tomorrow, 2.30 p.m. at Engineering E1 building. Planning to get there early so I won't caught in the rain.

I'll post some more ramblings after the exam... :D

Au revoir!

of New Year and Final Exam

I've been standing here since yesterday,

...thinking if I ever can go back to you.

...counting every second before I can make up my mind about you.

while every second our paths are parting in two different ways...

and we both know it even before yesterday.

For all that I know, I can't live without you.

I promised that I'll always be with you.

...but then again, can a promise triumph over a destiny?

Here I am, standing with my back on you.

...and slowly, walking away with a smile on my face.

Goodbye, 2011.

P.S.: good luck to all of you out there who're having your final exams like me.
